Did you choose writing or did it choose you? Did you start your writing career because you wanted to express yourself or because you thought it would be an easy way to make some money? Did you set out with a plan or are you playing it by ear?
How's that working out for you? Are you seeing your client list grow? Are your articles getting picked up by more sites all the time or are you just treading water hoping it will get better next week or next month?
Are your arms getting tired yet? Mine are. I'll be the first to admit that I chose writing because it seemed like an easy career. What I didn't take into account was that it was actually going to be work. That I was actually going to have to promote myself and become a lover of all things social networking related. Talk about a wake up call.
What was your wake up call? Are you still waiting for the phone to ring? Do have a plan? Are you planning on writing long term or are you just using this to bide time until you find a "real job?" I want to know.
Share your story.
Don't forget to keep track of the interesting stuff you write each week. Each Sunday I'll be posting my best stuff and giving you an opportunity to share your work as well.

Actually I started writing because I love it. I've been writing since I could speak (my mom still has a newspaper I made in the 3rd grade!). At the same time though, I recently started applying for jobs in my original professional field. As much as I love writing, I miss having a guaranteed paycheck every week and the chance to work around others a lot more.
I also wanted to say that I think some writers put too much emphasis on social networking. I've seen/heard a lot of writers who spend 1-4 hours every day focusing on reading their friends stuff before they even start writing. Just think how much they'd make if they set to work right away!
I basically spend some time with the boyfriend when I get up, see him off to work and then do my own work. By the time he gets home, I'm done and we can make dinner, watch a movie and spend some time together. At the end of the night I check out blogs and what not (if I have the time), but I don't make it my priority...
I started writing for money when I couldn't find a job. I discovered I could make a decent living if I really pushed myself. Right now I am freelancing to make extra money while I attend school. I plan to be an RN, so writing will be around for me forever, but for now it helps a lot.
