It's been a while since we had a featured freelancer here on Trapped in The Office and while we usually do this on Fridays this week is an exception. Today's featured freelancer has a unique business that could be very useful to bloggers out there struggling to keep it all together. She was also one of the first readers Trapped in the Office had so, let's give a warm welcome to Lisa.
Hi there! I’m Lisa Morosky, and I’m a VA! What’s a VA, you ask? A VA (Virtual Assistant) provides support to others via their own home office. I’m not just any VA though. I’m a VA to bloggers. I love my profession, and I respect and believe in my clients. But it’s been a long road for me. It took me a while to find my specific talents, and my niche.
I’ve been blogging since I was in middle school. Granted, back then making money with it wasn’t my priority. But I’ve had an intense connection with the internet for as long as I can remember.
About four years ago, while I was in college, I started to really think of how I could make money online. I’m an entrepreneur at heart, and I explored a lot of different venues during this time. I spent a lot of time writing on eHow.com. I did freebie trading. I participated in get-paid-to websites. I started blogs on all of these topics. But, my interest in all those topics fizzled out. It wasn’t my passion.
So I took a break. I got married, moved, and got a “real” job. After about nine months at this job, I got the entrepreneurial itch once again! I started reading up on the biggest names in the blogging industry for some inspiration. I started following all the big names I paid attention to on Twitter. I absorbed all the information I could.
While I was browsing Twitter one day, I saw that one of my favorite bloggers had posted a tweet and was looking for a virtual assistant. I’d been interested in the virtual assistant industry for some time, since I have a ton of administrative experience. I thought to myself, “Just any VA couldn’t possible understand all that goes into blogging and what he does. I kind of get it. I’ve done some of what he does.” So, I took a shot in the dark and sent him an email.
After some communication back and forth, I had landed my first client (David Risley, you can check him out at http://DavidRisley.com)! I began to realize that I had found an untapped niche in the VA world: virtual assistance for bloggers! So I quickly launched a website (http://www.VAforBloggers.com) and started to connect with more people on Twitter (@LisaMorosky). At the end of week one, and using Twitter alone to connect with bloggers, I had two new clients! I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot of really fun tasks for these clients.
The future of Lisa the VA looks bright. People are already referring me and my services to others! I plan to make VAforBloggers.com my full-time job within the next year.
I encourage everyone to be open to how their freelance work can expand into something much larger. And don't forget to maximize your use of Twitter and other social media!
Thanks so much Lisa for sharing your story with us.

I could not survive without my VA. Not only does she completely run my blog, but she also helps me with my appointments, dealing with clients, going through Craigslist and applying for gigs, and more. If only she weren't virtual, maybe she could clean for me too:))

Hey do you think its worthwhile to get a virtual office ? I know a couple but their plans look rather pricey. Appreciate any recommendations
@Lee - Thanks! I happen to think it's "much-deserved" too, but I'm a bit biased. ;)
@Yolander - Glad your VA is working out so well for you. If she ever does start cleaning for you, let me know. I could use a house-cleaning. ;)
@savantadmin - I honestly had never heard of these until you mentioned it. I looked it up and here's what I think: it largely depends on your business/client needs, as to whether or not a "virtual office" would be beneficial. For me, I can get a PO Box address, an eFax number, and meet with my clients on Skype or at Starbucks. But that's because the people I work with are internet-based (and I don't need facility space, or to have someone sign for packages, etc). Depends on your line of business I think.
Wow, you are making me wondering if I should open up to new possibilities like you - being a VA for bloggers. Currently, I am also a VA to a dining review website based in Australia.
